What Is the Difference Between an Essay, a Dissertation and a Thesis?

These three assignment types; essays, dissertations and theses are all important to students because at some point in the life of a student, there will be the request to complete at least one of the assignment types listed above!
Essays, dissertations and theses are all types of academic documents, produced by scholars and students and based on a specific question, subject matter or dilemma. They are used by colleges, schools, sixth forms and Universities as a means of determining how well a student is performing in a certain subject area and how well they have grasped crucial knowledge about a particular subject. And yet essays, dissertations and theses' are also often used to see how well a student is able to respond to specific questions on a particular subject matter and how well developed their skills are in terms of actually writing essays.
So what exactly is an essay? What is a dissertation? And what is a thesis?
The online dictionary defines an essay as; '(a) a short literary composition on a literary subject, usually presenting the personal view of the author, (b) something resembling such a composition.'
The online dictionary goes on to define a dissertation as; 'a treatise advancing a new point of view resulting from research, usually a requirement for an advanced academic degree.'
And finally a thesis shares the same definition as a dissertation on the online dictionary website, with one crucial difference; a thesis is usually longer than a dissertation.
So ultimately an essay, a dissertation and a thesis all share many traits:
- They are all literary compositions; that is to say that they are written documents or pieces of text.
- They all reflect in some way the author's point of view.
- They are all based on some form of research.
- They are all discussing some form of topic or subject matter.
- They can all be used as a means of academic testing.
However, there are differences between these three academic assignment types, and when you are completing either an essay, a dissertation or a thesis it is important to know what it is that defines the document as either one of these forms or assignment types so that you can ensure that you approach the completion of the document correctly.
Some of the main differences separating out these three document types are:
- Essays are generally shorter than dissertations and theses.
- Essays are usually used to explore an argument or to provide more information on a particular subject. Thus you'll find that most essay questions start with 'who, what, where, how or why'. They are looking for a conclusion to be drawn by the author, following an assessment of research that is already available.

7 Steps to Writing a Killer Term Paper

Alright, nobody can actually ever guarantee that they will receive an A on the term paper, but of course you can work hard and keep your fingers crossed. Here are 7 easy steps which you must follow so as to create a killer term paper and hope to receive an "A".
1. Know Your Topic
You need to make sure that you choose a topic that you are particularly interested in, or you would just lose interest in the middle of writing your term paper. Start by scribbling out a few words on paper which would help you get started on building your ideas. Your thesis statement would be formed from these words, so make sure that you write well.
2. Pick Your Citation Format
This would usually be chosen by your college professor and it is best to follow his choice. Do not try to be too creative with your citation style. If you have to choose your citation style, then stick with APA or MLA.
3. Get Comfortable
Before you begin to write, try getting a bit comfy. Put on your most comfortable clothes and settle down in your favorite chair with your laptop and your favorite drink around. Coffee usually works great!
4. Research Time
You probably have a notepad which consists of carefully prepared notes, but if you don't, its about time that you start Google-ing your topic up and figure out the information and references that you need to insert in your term paper, essay etc.
5. Organize Your Ideas
People have different approaches towards writing. Some form outlines and then write according to them, while others simply start writing on paper. No matter which approach you take, make sure that you organize it and follow a pattern that is sensible to you.
6. Prepare Your Rough Draft
After working for a few hours, you should have about 5 or 6 pages of text that is somewhat similar to the final outlook of your term paper, with a bit of scribbling, footnotes with links or reference to the sources you have used.

Have a Research Paper to Write, But Can't Find a Good Topic?

A common problem most students encounter is, not knowing what topic to write their research paper on. The topic of a paper can mean the difference between a "C" and an "A" grade. When picking a topic there are a few factors you should consider:
1) Make sure your topic is specific
The one thing that professors really hate to do is to read a research paper about a broad and vague topic. This usually indicates that you have not put much thought or effort into your assignment. A vague topic fails to capture the interest of your professor, usually because there are so many parts compiled into one document. For example, if you had to sit through a lecture that has the topic "The World", and sit through another lecture that has the topic "The efficient operations of China"; which one do you think is most likely to put you to sleep? Yes, a lecture on "The World"!
Yes China may not be the most exciting topic, but because it is narrow and specific you are more likely to pay attention and take in more information rather than listening to someone speaking about the entire world. So remember the C.S.C rule:
- Clear
- Specific
- Creative
2) Choose a subject that interests you
Its important to choose a topic that genuinely interests you. This will make writing the paper much more fun and enjoyable. Even if you choose a topic you know absolutely nothing about, the fact that you are intrigued by it will motivate you to learn more about the subject. Your level of interest definitely will show in your writing. Elaborate explanations of the subject in your paper is usually a sign of true interest. A student who is not interested in the topic will merely write vague descriptions with little insight into the subject shown. The professor can detect this and may even give you a lower grade simply because they can see your lack of interest in the assignment.
3) Try to educate your professor on a certain subject
Though professors have the occupation of teaching, they also want to learn new things from their students. Choosing a subject that is not widely popular or is a niche, can help boost your paper in a big way. Aim to educate your professor on something they do not know about. This rule is extremely important for presentations or group projects. If you can teach your classmates or teachers something new and interesting, you will receive tons of kudos. Every time they think of that certain subject, they will remember where they learnt it from; and for teachers, having their students teach them something new is a huge credential toward the pupil.
All in all, writing a research paper can be a wonderful journey; once the right rules are applied. Knowledge is the key that unlocks the chest of opportunities. The more you know, the more you can do. And the more you do, the more you gain. I guarantee that if you look at your research assignments from this perspective, you will enjoy writing papers much more than you do now!

How to Write a Marketing Research Paper

Well if you are going to write a thesis on sales an marketing, then here is what you should not do to get it right!
1. Proof read your papers well-you may have written the best paper in the world but no one will be able to get you thoughts and your ideas if your paper is filled with typos and errors. After you have written the paper do take a few minutes to check through what you have written t o make sure that there are no typos and grammatical errors.
2. After writing your thesis presentation, take a look at the overall format of your paper. Most professors provide a detailed summary of how they want the title page, introduction page and overall presentation of the paper. You should follow this to the tee to prevent any silly errors and mistakes. If you do not follow set formats your papers will be rejected resulting in later problems.
3. Most professors also assign projects to be completed along with the term papers. You should be able to collect data from your sales projects to co-relate with your data. Please do brush up your analysis methods of how to collate data and understand it to produce better results on your research methods.
4. While checking your papers please do not relay on your spell checker as it does not do the corrections of simple grammatical mistakes. It cannot correct from - and form and you lost out because of these errors. The best idea is to sleep on it and wait till the next day to take a fresh look at what you have written.
5. Please do give credit where it's due. If you have taken research and used it for references then use the proper citation style to tell your readers where you took your references from. Use an annotated bibliography and citation styles as your professor has asked you to do.
6. Anecdotal information is not considered for research purposes. If you have interviews, actual quotes and laboratory data to back up anecdotal information then that is OK but other that that please do not use gossip and rants by cults and hate groups as the basis for your term paper.
7. Do not use superlatives like good, felt and think etc. These words are not supposed to be used as they do not tell the reader the actual facts but are supposed to be feelings that you could feel with emotions and technical writing for research papers does not need feelings.
8. Wrong words like mistakes between affect and effect or misspelling of important appliances like a spectrophotometer or oscilloscope are not to be done. If you don't know the spellings please do Google them immediately to find out what they mean and the spellings. Mistakes with technical terms just demonstrate that you do not know your subject well at all.

Thinking of Buying a Used Mobile Home? 18 Steps For What to Watch Out For and How to Do it Right

If you are thinking of buying a used mobile home, there are things you need to watch out for. Buying a mobile home is not like buying a regular stick built. You need to know what to watch out for before you buy a used mobile home. Here are 10 things to watch out for when buying a used mobile home. These tips will guide you to make the right decision and/or how to negotiate in your best interest. Better safe than sorry. My seven years of selling used mobile homes has taught me a lot. I am now passing on that information to you so that you can make an educated choice.
1. Age. If your finances are tight, do not buy anything older than 1977. That is the cutout time for good financing and also the year a lender can determine if the used mobile home is a HUD home. 1976 and older were registered with DMV and not built to code. Therefor, lenders requires a 20% down on a 1976 or older. The term will be no longer than 15 years and the rate will be somewhere around 11-12%. That is a lot to pay. 1977 or newer requires only 10% down, you can get 20 years of financing and the rate is 1-2% lower. That is a much better deal. If the home is newer, the rate can be as low as 8%. Preferable, look for a home that is no more than 15 years old.
2. Park. Not all parks are approved by the lenders. Before making an offer to purchase, get yourself loan approved for that particular park. If the space rent is too high or if there are too many foreclosures in the park, lenders might say no to financing.
3. Rent control. Is it or is it not? Most parks are but some are not. If not, make sure yo fully understand what kind of yearly increase the park will impose on you. You might not mind paying that extra increase per year but each time the space rent is raised, the value of your mobile home WILL go down. Its like a car, depreciating. Still, it beats renting an apartment with people above, below, left and right.
4. Crime. Does the park have a security program? Is the park patrolled regularly by a security patrol company? If not, you probably should stay away. Yes, it is true, all residents have to follow the rules and regulations but if there is no security, many things can happen. A security patrol is a deterrent, crime will go elsewhere. Call the park manager and inquire. You can also call the local police office and ask for a crime report. Strongly recommended.
5. Pets. What is the parks policy? Your 80 ldb golden retriever might have a VERY hard time getting approved. Same for your pitt bull or any other so called "vicious breed". Most parks will NOT approve them. There is only one park in the Santa Clarita Valley that will approve a large dog, even two. However, no "vicious breeds". How stupid. Recently, I had a dog trainer with good credit, a large down payment and a German shepherd. That dog was the most well trained German shepherd but no, considered "vicious". So are dobermans, boxers, pinchers, chows and a couple of more. Inquire with the park BEFORE looking at any used (or new) mobile home. Save yourself the time (and your agents) by finding out first.
6. Neighbors. Most people are nice. However, since you are going to be living in tight quarters (most mobile home spaces are small and set very closely together), go and talk to the neighbors. Both the ones next door and some a few doors down. The ones a few doors down are the ones that will tell you what REALLY is going on. Maybe the couple next door do not get along any more. Maybe there is an alcohol problem. Maybe the kids play too loud. You need to know. Drive by in the evening, hang around for a while. Do the same for the weekend. Spend an hour on a Saturday night, driving around the mobile home park, you will then now if this is a place for you.

Certified Nursing Assistant Verification Online Registry

Certified Nursing Assistant Verification is important to maintain the integrity of hospitals and to keep them licensed and legally operating. CNAs work with nurses in every hospital and clinic, so they are invaluable, however it is necessary to make sure that they have had the proper training and are registered.
All hospitals whether privately owned and financially supported or public hospitals paid with government funding must have a registry of nurses and certified nurses assistants who work there.
The registry is a list of medical employees and it includes the first name, surname, the place of employment, education degrees and certifications and proof that they are registered with the city and county they are working in.
The majority of cities and counties in the Western World; United States, Canada, United Kingdom, etc. Use an online registration verification database through the internet. Some places still use the paper based, filing, data system which is quite antiquated.
Once a nursing assistant has finished the CNA course and passed the exams, they are certified. After that, a CNA must take a licensing exam and they receive a licensing number which allows them to work independently. Most nursing assistants are very busy and keeping track of licensing can be an arduous task. To avoid the hassle of a lot of paperwork, a CNA simply needs to find the nurse aide registry website for their county and city and vist the office to turn in their certificate and license so that a copy of the original is made. After that the CNA is able to keep the original documents and the registration verification office will post this information on the verification database for the medical community and the government.
One example of how the online registry functions, is that within the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services website exists for each county and city. An individual must enter the person's first name, surname, and their social security number on the website to find out whether the CNA is certified and registered.
